The dynamics around stable and unstable Hamiltonian relative equilibria

For a symmetric Hamiltonian system, lower bounds for the number of relative equilibria surrounding stable and formally unstable relative equilibria on nearby energy levels are given.

On the computation of unique normal forms and quadratic convergence

An algorithm is given which computes the transformation that transforms the initial system to final normalized system to a given order, while reducing the order to which intermediate results need to be computed. The algorithm will convergence quadratically when one is only interested in obtaining the classical normal form and somewhere in between linearly and quadratically in the general case.

On the Convergence and Behavior of Three Dimensional Normal Forms

Low codimensional bifurcations of control systems have been classified using the theory of normal forms. However, the normal form theory was developed as local results. To understand the behavior of control systems outside a local area of a bifurcation point, it is necessary to study the convergence of the normal forms if the vector fields are analytic. The convergence is a long time open probl...

On the convergence of normal forms for analytic control systems

A fruitful technique for the local analysis of a dynamical system consists of using a local change of coordinates to transform the system to a simpler form, which is called a normal form. The qualitative behavior of the original system is equivalent to that of its normal form which may be easier to analyze. A bifurcation of a parameterized dynamics occurs when a change in the parameter leads to...

Persistent Unstable Equilibria in Wonderland

Models of the interactions between population, economy, and environment often contain nonlinear functional relationships and variables that vary a t different speeds. These properties foster apparent unpredictabilities in system behavior. Using a simple deterministic model of demographic, economic and environmental interactions, we illustrate the usefulness of geometric singular perturbation th...
